Dr. David Hammonds
David has 29 years of experience in the ministry. He founded one church in North Carolina and has been the Senior Pastor of three churches in Georgia; Poplar Springs Baptist in Dalton, GA, Greentree Baptist Church in Tyrone, GA, and Sardis Baptist Church in Palmetto, GA.
David has a great spiritual heritage. He was saved under the ministry of Dr. Arthur Blackburn at the renowned Landis Baptist Church, Landis, NC. He was greatly influenced by Dr. J.C. Canipe, the founder of Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute in Hendersonville, NC. In 1956 David’s dad, Rev. O.B. Hammonds graduated from Fruitland. David was the 1956 Class mascot. The pastors that attended Fruitland at that time impacted David’s life and set his heart on ministry.
After serving four years in the USAF David followed the Lord’s leading into full time ministry in August, 1972. After attending Appalachian State University in Boone, NC David felt led to continue his education at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. Dr. Falwell became a great influence and God used Dr. Falwell to bring vision into David’s ministry. In the past few years David has been associated with Immanuel Baptist Theological Seminary in Sharpsburg, GA. Since receiving his MDiv from Immanuel he has served on the faculty as Professor of Homiletics. He has recently finished his doctoral dissertation. David’s years of ministry have been rewarding and fulfilling.
A few years ago David began a daily email devotional, “Think on these Things”, that he emails to his church family and others. Many, all across the nation, receive blessings through these devotionals.
Family is David’s greatest ministry. David is married to Sandra Norris Hammonds of Gastonia, NC. Sandra is Executive Administrative Assistant to Chris Hobbs, Vice President of Communications of the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home in Palmetto, GA. Sandra and David consider the greatest blessings of life are their two daughters, one son-in-law, and two grandchildren.
