Still Standing

Matt 7:24 "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
NKJV

I love to watch high-rise buildings being demolished.   I generally have to watch them on TV but occasionally I have been privileged to watch the demolition in person.  There is a eerie feeling when it happens.  The building is set to implode.  They set the charges so that the building collapses from the inside.

So many lives are like that.  They destroy themselves from the inside.  Jesus said to build our lives on Him and we would be secure.  It matters not what happens on the inside or the outside when our lives are built on Him.

Don't worry about the storms of life, He has you covered.  Take hope that there are others around you that will find the same truth in their lives.

Are you covered?

Uncertainty

Jer 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. NKJV

When I was a child the trips to visit grandmother could sometimes be a terrifying adventure.  On the way to grandmother's house were some low lying bridges.  When there was a heavy rain the bridges would be covered by the river's water.  You could not see the bridges at all.  All that could be seen was the road leading into the water.  My dad loved the adventure.  It seemed to delight him when the water was over the bridge.  I was terrified.   I wondered why he enjoyed something that terrified me.  Then one day I realized he was giving me one of the best illustrations of God's care for me.   You see my dad knew exactly where the bridge was.  He knew the feel of the water and the safety of the bridge.  I could not.

Our lives are constantly filled with uncertainty.  We do not know the road ahead.  Often the road has been covered with trouble that terrifies us.  We don't know if we can make it through.  Don't worry.  Your Heavenly Father knows the road ahead.  He knows the feel of the trouble and He has you.  You are as safe as you have ever been.  Sometimes when I most terrified I would hold on to dad's shoulder as we went through the water.  Our Lord has a big shoulder!

Your Lord has your future in His control.  Don't be terrified; feel secure.

Close your eyes!

Old Story

Prov 12:14 A man will be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, NKJV

I was putting in a "home movie" video when I heard my granddaughter, Ali, say quietly, "I don't want to watch 'home movies'."  To her they are boring and a waste of time.  It made me think about all the old boring stories that I tell.   We are all bored when we have heard someone tell the same story over and over again.  I have found myself wanting to interrupt the person and tell the story myself so the misery will end.

This emotion never happens when it is the story of Jesus.  I love to hear the story over and over again.  It never is boring, as a matter of fact; it gets better every time I hear it.  We sing a song that says the more we tell the story; it gets "more wonderfully sweet."  Another song says, "Tell me once again about His love."  Blessings come each time I hear the story.

If for some reason you have not heard the story lately, here it is.  Jesus Christ (God) left His home in heaven.  He was given a small earthly body to live in.  Jesus lived sinless in that body as it grew to the size of a young man.  He was then taken to an old rugged cross where He died in that body.  He died for you and me.  He died because we are sinners and no one could save us from our sins but Him.  He could have refused, but He died willingly because He loved us so much.  He took all the blame and punishment for our sins.  His body was buried but three days later He was resurrected.  Jesus is now in Heaven and He loves us today as much as He did that day He died for us.  Now He invites people like you and me to come to Him for forgiveness so that we can live with Him forever.  All we are required to do is trust in Him for our salvation and receive Him into our lives.   Sounds great doesn't it?  It makes me want to tell it again.  It never grows old.  Call on Him today and enjoy the story again.

Tell me His Name again!!

What To Wear

Job 29:14 I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.  KJV

A common question around most households is "What can I wear tomorrow?" There is the process of seeing what is clean.  Then there is the process of eliminating the most recent wardrobes.  Changing weather creates another problem.  In some cases the ensemble that is necessary for the cold morning is unfit for the warm afternoon.

Nothing fits a believer better than righteousness.  The brightness of His glory and the crisp clean appearance of a righteous Christian is a striking image in this dark sinful world.  The conviction and commitment of a child of God should be to look our best.  We have been clothed in His righteousness.  Why soil such a blessing?

Have you lost your clean crisp look?  Call on the Savior today.  He cleans and presses our lives into the best life worn.  Don't let the dirt of the world take away the sharpness of His glory.  He wants you to look good.  His appearance is breathtaking, ours should be also.

You look marvelous, darling!
